Unpacking books, family heirlooms, holiday decorations, pictures, toys and objets d’art from several different labeled (and often mislabeled) boxes to place into a wall unit or on built-in shelves takes time and patience. Figuring out what placement makes the most sense while also being aesthetically pleasing is the goal. I worked with the client to decide what to display, what to store behind the cabinet doors and what to move to the garage for future use.
Additionally, hanging coats in the closet in rainbow order with similar hangers helps to streamline the look. Shoes can be placed neatly on the floor or in a shoe organizer that will fit underneath the longest hanging jacket. Hooks hung low on the inside of the doors help children retrieve their coats prior to leaving the house and hang them back up upon their return to the house. The top shelf of a coat closet can be used for displaying hats and storing scarfs and gloves in a beautiful basket. Cleaning supplies should be kept in a more convenient, but hidden location.
